Teachers Day History When the great educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5th September 1888, he was a renowned scholar, philosopher and he worked as a lecturer in many colleges. He also held the post of Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. He became the first Vice President of India and then the second President. The tradition of Teachers Day started in 1962 when one of his students expressed the desire to celebrate his birthday, so instead of celebrating his birthday, he proposed to dedicate this day to all the teachers and professors of the whole of India.
