In 1893, a young lawyer travelling in a first class train in South Africa was thrown out of the train at Pietermaritzburg station. This incident of racial discrimination was one that changed the life of a young lawyer and he fought for the equality and freedom of people all his life. That young lawyer was none other than Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar in coastal Gujarat.
